This is a story about life—
how it ends, and how it starts.
Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil is a book I have been looking forward to for months. The only reason it took me this long (2 months) after release to read it was because I had a sudden influx of review copies at the time that I needed to get through first. When the moment finally came, though, it was wonderful to sink into a V. E. Schwab world once again. As always with her books, the prose was a delight to read. The characters were memorable and beautifully crafted, and the world building was nicely handled. I enjoyed how the book contained many vampire tropes but with a subtle twist that made the vampires seem unique and helped them to stand out from the usual fare. Despite being over 500 pages, the pacing was perfect, so the book never felt long. The multiple POVs and the back and forth of the timeline both worked without any glitches. If you are already a V. E. Schwab fan, this is another gem to add to your collection. It's also a fun book to start with if you are new to her writing but are a fan of vampire fiction. I am giving it five stars.
