Drama/Thriller
A man who poured his life savings into a new apartment discovers its walls are full of disturbing noises, hostile neighbors and unsettling secrets.
Wall to Wall is a film that is uniquely Korean and yet universal at the same time. Apartment living in Korea has been known to lead to noise disputes, feelings of isolation etc. but the same would be true anywhere, hence the universality. This movie explores the mental breakdown and breaking points of people living in close proximity and dealing with noise issues. In the case of this story, there is something more sinister behind it all, but we watch as the residents gradually become more and more unhinged as the problem remains unsolved. The film also comments on the cost of living and the lengths people have to go to trying to secure a residence and meet increasing debts. Overall, the film was well acted and atmospheric. The use of noise and moments of silence worked well to increase the tension. I was certainly involved in the action, yelling at him to push the button during one notable computer scene. The ending was, I thought particularly poignant since, after all the drama, we essentially came full circle. I am giving this film 4 stars.
