In 1980s Korea, a movie star and a starlet defy male-dominated industry rules and backstage corruption while filming the provocative "Madame Aema".
Aema was an interesting drama on many levels. I was unfamiliar with the movie whose filming it revolves around, so I had no preconceptions or expectations as the series started. I thought it an fascinating exposé of the film industry in Korea at the times, which probably had parallels with other countries around the world too. I particularly liked the development of the relationship between the two female leads. The series managed to be both serious and tongue-in-cheek at different moments, and that balance generally worked well. There were also some excellent filmic moments in the cinematography. I am giving this one 4.5 stars.
