Sci-Fi Black Comedy

Desperate to escape Earth, Mickey Barnes enlists as an Expendable on a space colony voyage, taking on high-risk missions -- and dying over and over again.

I've ended up watching, by chance, a few black comedy pieces lately. It is a genre I have long enjoyed, so it's been fun and refreshing to watch some again after a bit of a break. Mickey 17 is a film I turned to when my husband wanted us to watch something together, as it seemed like it would appeal to us both. In the end, we did both enjoy it. The premise was interesting and it managed to be both dark and funny at times. Robert Pattinson did a good job portraying the different versions of himself, each with their own quirks, and the space creatures they encountered managed to be hideous and cute at the same time. The special effects were generally good, and while the pacing started slowly, it allowed enough time to set the scene before ramping up towards the end. This is a film I can see becoming a bit of a cult classic in the future. I am giving it 4.5 stars.
