Seo Mi-rae is worn out by work. Love? It's the last thing on her mind. But a virtual dating service sparks feelings — and maybe a real shot at romance.
Boyfriend on Demand was a fairly light and easy romance watch. I thought the premise was interesting, and I think if the VR system existed in real life I would be keen to give it a try, and the juxtaposition with the world of webtoons worked well. The show allowed for an exploration of the nature of relationships: how they are not always easy, but sometimes the ups and downs are what are important. The show acquired a stellar cast, even for the VR-boyfriend cameos. Where it fell down a little for me was that I didn't really sense much chemistry between Jisoo and any of her co-stars. I could have understood that for her virtual boyfriends, since that wasn't 'real', but I would have liked to have felt more of a vibe between her and Seo In-guk. Given that, I am giving this one 4 stars. It was a fun, easy-watching series that had some good moments, but didn't quite come together on all fronts.
