Book Review: 틴틴팅클! by 난 (Manhwa)

귀염둥이 고양이 틴틴과 팅클의 따스한 일상을 담은 웹툰 〈틴틴팅클!〉이 책으로 출간됐다. 상냥하고 다정한 ‘틴틴’, 엉뚱하지만 누구보다 친구를 아끼는 마음이 깊은 ‘팅클’을 비롯해 장난꾸러기 ‘임자’, 표현이 서툴어도 다정한 ‘콩물’, 세상에서 가장 사이좋은 자매 ‘베리’와 ‘미니’까지…. 누구라도 보자마자 사랑할 수밖에 없는 귀여운 고양이 캐릭터들이 풀어나가는 아기자기한 일상담은 공감을 자아내는 추억 이야기가 가득해 읽는 독자들의 마음까지 말랑말랑하게 만들어 준다.

하굣길 같이 먹으면 더 맛있던 컵떡볶이 이야기부터 두근두근 설레던 마니또 놀이, 어깨를 맞대고 짝과 함께 읽던 교과서, 잠 못 들게 만들었지만 끝까지 들을 수밖에 없었던 괴담 에피소드까지 티 없이 순수했던 초등 시절에 잠기게 만들어 주는 선물 같은 만화다. 또한 단순한 일상 공감 에피소드에 그치지 않고 다양한 가족의 형태와 친구 관계 등 틴틴팅클과 친구들이 서로 이해하고 알아가는 과정이 잔잔하게 묻어나 있어 우리 모두 다르기 때문에 더 재미있고 소중한 친구임을 알려 준다.
2019년 네이버웹툰 루키단편선에서 단편 〈고양이편의점〉으로 우리 이웃의 훈훈한 이야기를 고양이 캐릭터로 풀어내어 많은 찬사를 받으며 데뷔한 난 작가는 현재 SNS에서 가장 사랑받는 고양이 만화 〈틴틴팅클!〉을 인기리에 연재하고 있다. 앞으로도 세상과 사람에 대한 따뜻한 시선이 담긴 이야기를 계속해나갈 예정이다.

2020년부터 작가가 인스타그램과 트위터에서 연재한 만화를 새롭게 재구성한 〈틴틴팅클!〉에는 엄선된 78편의 에피소드와 함께 지금까지 한 번도 공개되지 않았던 후일담 컷이 전 에피소드마다 수록되었으며, 〈틴틴팅클!〉 팬이라면 궁금했던 고양이들의 비밀도 ‘작가 후기’를 통해 공개된다.

 

틴틴팅클! was the last of the cute cat manhwas I bought in Seoul in 2024 that I still had to read, so I decided to tackle it straight after finishing the previous one I reviewed. Like that one, it was a cute and quick/easy read, but for language learning purposes, I did find it a bit better than the last one. While it was still picture-heavy, there was a little more text and proper dialogue between the characters. A lot I could already understand or infer from the images, but there were a few words for me to look up here and there. This one would be suitable for a high beginner who wants to start reading but isn't ready to tackle a full page of text. The only warning I would make is that, like so many of these manhwas, it does employ the occasional bit of 'cute' spelling that you need to be able to recognise. I am giving this one 4 stars. It was a sweet little collection of cartoons and had some study value as well. That's it for the manhwas now, though, so for my next read I will be returning to YA novels which are going to take longer/more work to get through. After these recent easy reads, though, I am excited for the challenge.
