Gillian Lynne Theatre
London
Musical
(This is a late review for a show I saw last year. I was too tired and had back pain when I got back from my trip, and then I forgot I had not yet done this review until I was penning a new theatre review for this year. So, I am now catching up.)
I was excited when I saw this one-night-only performance of Swag Age would coincide with my trip to the UK and immediately asked my parents to buy us tickets. I love musicals (including Korean musicals), so this was a must-watch for me and I wasn't disappointed. Although it was billed as a concert version, the cast were not simply standing in front of microphones as I had imagined. Instead, there was some staging and they moved around and danced. Having seen footage of the show in Korea, it was only lacking a few staging elements from the usual production. The cast performed in Korean, but there were boards with an English translation on either side of the stage for those who needed it. The cast performed with great energy and enthusiasm, the storyline was interesting, and the songs enjoyable and memorable, so you could leave the theatre humming some of them. Both my parents also enjoyed it despite not knowing any Korean. I would happily watch this one again and again, so I am giving it 5 stars.
