Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro reimagines Mary Shelley's classic tale of a brilliant scientist and the creature his monstrous ambition brings to life.
As a long-time fan of Guillermo del Toro, I was excited to see his take on Frankenstein. As you would expect of one of his films, the movie is visually perfect with some wonderful shots and a stunning use of thematic imagery. The film stays close enough to the source material while taking some artistic license as well, but that contrast never felt jarring. The acting too was superb, making it an emotional ride. I think it's hard to make an adaptation of a novel perfect enough to please everyone, but as versions of Mary Shelley's tale go, this is definitely up there among the better examples and well worth a watch. I am giving it 4.5 stars.
