Today I am taking part in the OMG That Song Book Tag and I welcome anyone who likes the concept to join in! I've seen two different people listed as the creator, so I will credit both: Kate's Book Date and The Book Nut.
The questions are:
- My Jam: A song you have to listen to no matter how many times you’ve heard it and a book that you’ll never get sick of…
- Throwback: a song that reminds you of the cringeiest time in your life and a book you read that you would wouldn’t like if you read it now…
- Replay: A recent song that you have on repeat and a recent favorite book…
- Gets me: a song that is literally me and a book that is me in book form…
- WUT: A weird song that you liked anyways and a unique book that stuck out to you for some reason…
- Let’s Go: Pick your best pump up song and a book that inspires you…
- Chill: Your best chill or relaxing song and a book you’d curl up with on a rainy day…
- Addicting: A guilty pleasure song and a light, trashy read you can’t help but love…
- Nostalgia: A throwback song you look back on fondly and a book you read and loved when you were young…
Since I am a musical theatre fan, I decided to make all my song choices from musicals. Hope you enjoy it!
My Jam: A song you have to listen to no matter how many times you’ve heard it and a book that you’ll never get sick of…
My favourite musical is Elisabeth, and my favourite song from the show is 'Die Schatten Werden Länger'. I love it in any language, but here is Korean version with my favourite Korean musical theatre actor Jeon Dong-seok.
For a book, I have to pick the Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden. I could read this one again and again and never get bored of it.
Throwback: a song that reminds you of the cringeiest time in your life and a book you read that you would wouldn’t like if you read it now…
For the song I picked 'The Spring of 1117' from Rage of the Heart. I can't tell you why though = too cringy! :) I couldn't share, I'm afraid as I couldn't find it on YouTube.
For the book this time I picked Vampire Diaries. As a pre-teen I thought it was amazing, but when I reread it as an adult (while watching the TV series) the writing really made me cringe.
Replay: A recent song that you have on repeat and a recent favorite book…
Lately I fell in love with the Korean version of the musical Thrill Me and my favourite song from it is 'Nothing Like a Fire'.
For a book, I had to pick Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil, the most recent amazing new release from V. E. Schwab.
Gets me: a song that is literally me and a book that is me in book form…
This was a bit tough, but I settled on 'La complainte de la serveuse automate' from Starmania as I've had times when I feel lost about my purpose.
I picked Musicals: The Definitive Illustrated Story for the book, as this post proves how much I love musical theatre! When I considered books, I could think of many that have resonated with me, but it was hard to really say one 'was' me.
WUT: A weird song that you liked anyways and a unique book that stuck out to you for some reason…
I had to pick 'I Want More' from Lestat for this category. The song's a bit weird, but it's super catchy.
Book-wise, I went with The Vegetarian by Han Kang, which is a slightly surreal but deeply affecting read.
Let’s Go: Pick your best pump up song and a book that inspires you…
There were a few contenders for this song, but in the end I settled on 'So Much Better' from Legally Blonde.
I automatically thought of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V. E. Schwab for the book. I love the premise and the way the story felt so uplifting by the end.
Chill: Your best chill or relaxing song and a book you’d curl up with on a rainy day…
This one was a bit harder, but I chose 'Loving You Keeps Me Alive' from Dracula, but I like it best in the Korean version and always like to sing along to Mina's part, imagining Jeon Dong-seok is singing to me.
Nothing makes me happier than Hua Cheng and Xie Lian, so I choose Heaven Official's Blessing by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu as my book to curl up with.
Addicting: A guilty pleasure song and a light, trashy read you can’t help but love…
'It's a Hard Knock Life' from Annie is the song I can't get out of my head and keep singing whenever I have to do the cleaning - even though it's a bit high and screechy for me.
For a book, I had to pick the Vampire Empire series. It's not trashy, trashy, but it's light entertainment with vampires, and I love it.
Nostalgia: A throwback song you look back on fondly and a book you read and loved when you were young…
I went through the full-blown teenage phase of singing 'On My Own' from Les Misérables (as if any of us didn't).
I read Jane Austen for the first time in my teens and Pride and Prejudice was of course a fave; and I still love it as an adult. Team Darcy all the way.
