Film Review: K-Pop Demon Hunters (2025) (Animation/Musical)

K-Pop Demon Hunters
2025
PG
Animation/Musical
When K-pop superstars Rumi, Mira and Zoey aren't selling out stadiums, they're using their secret powers to protect their fans from supernatural threats.

I might have let this movie pass me by except for the fact that many of the Korean language-learning YouTube channels I follow started releasing videos talking about the film and generally praising it for all the Korean culture Easter eggs featured, as well as the good songs. So, I decided to give it a try, and I'm glad I did because it was really fun. The story is entertaining but also thoughtful and emotional at times. The animation looks great and the songs are catching. The demon tiger steals every scene he appears in and I imagine plush toys may well appear for him in the future. (I would secretly want one myself.) I could see myself rewatching this and enjoying it again the second time, and I have been playing a few of my favourite songs from the film in the meantime. Recommended to fans of K-Pop and Korean culture in general, as well as fans of animated musicals. I am giving it 4.5 stars.
