TV Review: Dead or Love (2025) (Thriller)

Dead or Love (死ぬほど愛して)
2025
8 episodes
MA15+
Thriller
Netflix

Mio adores her seemingly perfect husband, Masato, until a local murder raises doubts about him — forcing her to question their love and his true nature.

Dead or Love had a strong starting premise, and I liked that the acting was mostly natural and not over the top, as has been the case in some other Japanese dramas I've watched. I was interested to see how the truth about Masato would slowly be revealed, and that worked fine, with some twists along the way. The issue for me, though, was Mio. She had no agency, and some of the things she said and did made me double-take and wonder if she was for real, especially in the final two episodes. I don't want to write any spoilers, so I won't elaborate further than that for now, but I simply found her too unbelievable, particularly after the truth was revealed. I also wondered why everyone kept insisting on the good looks of Masato when I didn't find him particularly attractive. But each to their own on that score, I guess. In any case, I am giving this one 3 stars. It wasn't awful and was entertaining enough, but it did have some issues and things that made me shake my head.
