Six months ago, Hikaru vanished for a week. Now, as his best friend Yoshiki senses something amiss and confronts him, the harrowing truth emerges.
I started watching The Summer Hikaru Died with zero knowledge of the story. I found the first couple of episodes a little strange and slow, so I wasn't sure it was for me. But I decided to persevere and as things progressed I did become more caught up in the story, to the extent that when it ended I wanted to watch on to S2 to find out what will happen next. This was an interesting piece visually too, with some scenes a blend of shot footage and animation and others pure animation. This helped to add an extra eerie quality. I am giving this 4.5 stars. I liked the piece stylistically and the story, once it got going, was compelling.
