TV Review: Idol I (2025) (Drama)

Idol I (아이돌아이)

Top criminal lawyer Maeng Se-na is a secret boy band superfan. But her work and passion collide when her favorite idol becomes a murder suspect.

Idol I was a drama with a fun premise, which is what first drew me to watch it. There was a bit of melodrama here, but nothing too over the top, and on the whole the action proceeded at a good place with believable twists along the way. I enjoyed the performances from the leads, especially Kim Jae-young, who gave an emotional portrayal of Do Ra-ik's journey. As something of a fangirl myself, I naturally enjoyed a tale of a fan meeting her idol and forming a connection with him. I am sure many other superfans will feel the same way as they watch. I thought the drama balanced well the romantic aspects with the murder case and personal development for the two main characters. My only reservation was the final episode, which felt a bit like filler since all the main aspects of the plot wrapped up in episode nine. But that was a minor niggle, so I am still giving this one 4.5 stars.
