TV Review: Bon Appétit, Your Majesty (2025) (Historical Romance)

After time traveling to the Joseon era, a talented chef meets a tyrant king. Her modern dishes captivate his palate, but royal challenges await her.

There was a lot to like about Bon Appétit, Your Majesty. The premise was really fun, and I enjoyed that it offered a fresh take on a real historical figure. The pacing through most of the series was very good and there was an excellent mix of drama and humour. It was entertaining to see how modern dishes were adapted to the era and circumstances, and I really liked the development of the relationship in the romance part of the plot, which seemed realistic and wasn't just instalove. The only thing that stops me giving this series 5 stars is the ending. I had anticipated how it would end and thought I also knew how. When that didn't happen, I saw another option that would work just as well, but that, too, didn't happen. The ending came about as expected, but the 'how' was completely ignored and glossed over. The final episode left me with so many questions, and it was frustrating when there were clearly several ways it could have been explained that would have made perfect sense within the context of the story. I really wish they'd added just one or two more episodes to full flesh out the ending and explain properly how it came about. As such, I am giving this one 4.5 stars.
