Today I am taking part in the Halloween Creatures Book Tag and I welcome anyone who likes the concept to join in! The tag seems to have first been created by Anthony @ Keep Reading Forward, though that blog no longer appears to exist.
The questions are:
- Witch: A magical character or book
- Werewolf: The perfect book to read at night
- Frankenstein: A book that truly shocked you
- The Devil: A dark or evil character
- Grim Reaper: A character that never should have died
- Zombie: A book that made you hungry for more
- Gargoyle: A character you could protect at all costs
- Vampire: A book that sucked the life out of you
- Ghost: A book that still haunts you
- Demon: A book that really scared you
- Skeleton: A character you have a bone to pick with
- Mummy: A book you would preserve throughout time
- Creepy Doll: A cover too scary to look at
Witch: A magical character or book
I choose the Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden. I love this series so much!
Werewolf: The perfect book to read at night
It has to be The Night Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko
Frankenstein: A book that truly shocked you
I don't know that any book has ever desperately shocked me, but there were certainly a few confronting moments in American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis.
The Devil: A dark or evil character
I actually love a dark character and one of my faves in recent years is the Darkling from the Grishaverse novels.
Grim Reaper: A character that never should have died
The first who popped into my mind was Boromir in The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. Poor old Boromir!
Zombie: A book that made you hungry for more
One of my favourite danmei series is Heaven Official's Blessing by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu and volume six certainly left me anxiously awaiting the next volume.
Gargoyle: A character you could protect at all costs
Victor Vale from the Vicious trilogy by V. E. Schwab. I adore him.
Vampire: A book that sucked the life out of you
The hideous Tristram Shandy by Laurence Stern that defeats me whenever I've tried to read it.
Ghost: A book that still haunts you
We Do Not Part by Han Kang - a deeply thoughtful tale.
Demon: A book that really scared you
I read a lot of horror in my early teens, but one I remember getting to me a bit was Stephen King's Gerald's Game.
Skeleton: A character you have a bone to pick with
Pretty much every character in the Twilight series at one point or another.
Mummy: A book you would preserve throughout time
The first that came to mind was The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V. E. Schwab. I really love it, and want to reread when I can ever find the time.
Creepy Doll: A cover too scary to look at
I didn't have any ideas for this, but a quick search found me The Vivisector by Patrick White. Eew!
