Film Review: Wonderland (2024) (Sci-Fi)

Wonderland (원더랜드)
2024
PG
Sci-Fi

When artificial intelligence enables the grieving to talk to the lost, a flight attendant and a mother grapple with the meaning of reality and humanity.

Wonderland was a film with a really intriguing premise. I liked the idea of being able to communicate with AI versions of loved ones who had died or were in a coma. It also promised some interesting exploration of topics like dealing with grief and whether an AI can compare to a real person. On some levels the film delivered. After a rather slow and slightly confusing start, the different storylines became clear and the action sped up. I did care about the various characters, but at the same time, when the film ended I still felt a little unsatisfied. It seemed like the topics and themes could have been explored in more depth and that things only skimmed the surface without delving deeper. But, they did only have two hours, so perhaps I was expecting too much within that time frame. After some thought, I have decided to give this movie 3.5 stars. It certainly had good points and a fascinating premise, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations.
