Book Tag: The Traveller Book Tag

Today I am launching a book tag I have created myself, stemming from my love of reading and my love of travel. It is called the Traveller Book Tag and I welcome anyone who likes the concept to join in!

The questions are:

  1. A book set in the place (city or country) where you live.
  2. A book set in the city you know best.
  3. A book set in your favourite place (city or country) to visit.
  4. A book set in a place (city or country) you've been to once and wish to return to.
  5. A book set in a place (city or country) on your travel wishlist.

So, without further ado, let me kick things off with my answers!

A book set in the place (city or country) where you live.

I am picking The Light Between Oceans for this one. I loved both the book and the movie and its a great piece of Australian historical fiction.

A book set in the city you know best.

The city I know best is definitely London as I used to visit there a lot when I lived in the UK, mostly to go to the theatre, so the West End is my key haunt. The book I picked for this one is A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab, a book that features not just one version of London but four!

A book set in your favourite place (city or country) to visit.

For a book set in my favourite place to visit, my mind naturally turned straight to Seoul, South Korea. My husband and I went there on holiday in 2023 and returned again in 2024 because we loved the place so much. A third trip is most definitely in our future. For now, though, I will recommend the book Beasts of a Little Land by Kim Juhea, another wonderful piece of historical fiction.

A book set in a place (city or country) you've been to once and wish to return to.

In 2015 my husband and I did a bit of a whirlwind tour of Scandinavia. We loved all the countries we visited, but Iceland was the one that really stood out for me. It was so stark and yet so beautiful. We really only saw Reykjavik, though, so I would love to go back in the future and visit other areas. The book I am picking is Independent People, one of the key works by one of my two favourite Icelandic authors, Halldór Laxness.

A book set in a place (city or country) on your travel wishlist.

My husband and I had planned to travel to Japan for the first time in 2020, but of course COVID put an end to those plans. Then Seoul ended up coming first when we did start travelling again, so we still have not made it to Tokyo. It is definitely on the cards still for the future though. For this question I have selected Norwegian Wood by Murakami Haruki. I like many Japanese authors, but Murakami Haruki is the one I read first, and I still buy all his new releases.
